How to Build a Community That Craves Your Content

Building a community that loves you and craves your content is one of the greatest things you can do for your business. You don’t have a business without clients and customers, and those lovely people are in the community that flocks to you.

Having a community that craves your content means you can reach and serve more people than you ever imagined. Every time you share content, they’re ready to love it, comment on it, and share it. Why? Because they believe in you, connect to what you’re doing, and want to support you. Throw the confetti and pop the champagne!

Loyal communities don’t just fall from the sky; you must be intentional about gathering the people you want to serve. Be clear on who you are, who you’re here for, and why they should choose you over someone else. If you’re not clear about these things, you won’t be able to build a robust, loyal community of super fans who love you and support your business.

Still not sure what to do? Don’t fret, there’re some easy tricks to help you build a passionate community and grow your business. Learn to apply them and watch your super fans emerge.

Here’re a few of my favorites:

Care first

Sadly, a lot of business owners don’t build a community with a helpful mindset focused on people. They go into it with a profit-driven mindset focused on their bottom line. They create programs, products, and services to pitch to their community without stopping to ask if those things are what their community really need. These business owners just want them to whip out their credit cards and start buying immediately. Yes, that’s as icky as it sounds.

People can sense your intentions, so don’t think you’re fooling anyone when you go into it with a selfish mindset. They know when you care, and the more you care about your community, the more they care about you and what you’re selling.

Focus on the humans on the other side of the screen, not the sales you hope to make, and the sales will follow.

Get to know them

Once you start building your community, it’s essential to know the people who’re joining it. There’re a million ways to do this through social media engagement, live events, meeting one-on-one, and so much more.

Ask them about their interests, their needs, how you can serve them better, and other personal questions that give you a detailed visual of their dreams and desires. This helps you dive deeper, keep your fingers on the pulse of what matters most to them, and create exactly what they need, not what you think they need.

Continue to listen

Your community is the greatest source of feedback, ideas to grow your business, and an outsider’s perspective of what you do.

Before you spend hundreds of hours making a course, product, or service, just ask your community if it’s something they’d love to buy. Their responses will show if it’s a win or a lukewarm idea.

Don’t get caught up in making something you think they want without asking them first! It can be painful, unnecessary, and disheartening. Make what they want, not what you want them to want.

Keep them up to date

A lot of entrepreneurs build communities and abandon them after a while. Got personal issues clouding your focus and creativity? Keep your community in the loop so they know what’s going on; they’ll understand as long as you’re honest and transparent. Just disappearing on them is as bad as ghosting a date.

Give them insider tips, walk them through your days, and continue to share anything that connects you to them. Treat them like your dear friends, and trust me, they’ll feel the love.

Find out their favorite communication channels

Is your community mostly on Facebook? Instagram? Email? Twitter?

Find out where they hang out and serve them there. Most business owners want to be everywhere, but if you’re just starting out or you’re a solopreneur, it’s best to start where your customers already are. Go where they are and build something beautiful there.

Add value before you sell

Gary Vaynerchuk calls this the “Jab jab jab, right hook” approach, which means you give, give, give, and then ask for something in return. Almost all of us have had to deal with someone pitching us way too early before we’ve been warmed for the sale. Not fun, right? The last thing you want to do is give people a bad taste of your business.

Give value and solve problems before you ask anyone for money. It seems counterintuitive, but it works.

Don’t lose your initial connection

As often as you can, connect with your community. Some people grow so big that they lose connection with their core base because they’re focused on their to-do lists, scaling their business, and other things that distract them from staying connected. Make sure that your desire to grow doesn’t swallow up your desire to stay connected to your community.

Want your community loving you and craving your content? Keep deepening your connection to them and sharing your authentic self. We’re irresistibly drawn to the genuine among us.

How will you get closer to your community today?
